A sales model defines the routes to market.
Depending on the market situation and a number of other factors, there are endless variations of sales models - just a few examples:
- Direct Sales
- Indirect Sales - 1-Tier
- Indirect Sales - 2- or more Tiers
- Direct and Indirect Sales combined
- Traditional sales (models as above) PLUS On-line Sales
- Only On-Line sales
- and many other permutations
In an ideal world the sales model is stable. But, the world is not ideal. Hence, depending on a changing environment, sales success, or other influences sales models can change regularly.
The implications can be enormous, and if not carefully implemented and defined, can lead to confusion within organizations. It is utmost important that the goal sheets of each sales rep reflects this model and that corresponding measurement criteria are matching it to 100%.
